Alison GRIMALDI

Dr Alison Grimaldi is an Australian Sports Physiotherapist with a Bachelor of Physiotherapy, a Masters of Sports Physiotherapy and a Doctorate in Philosophy in the field of Physiotherapy. Her PhD was completed through the University of Queensland, and was aimed at improving the understanding of function and dysfunction of the lateral stability mechanism of the hip and pelvis in the presence of hip joint pathology, or unloading (bed-rest). She has published in this field, and has ongoing research involvement at the University of Queensland and University of Melbourne, including a large randomized controlled trial on gluteal tendinopathy. Alison is also involved in supervision of PhD projects investigating muscle function in hip and groin pain. She is passionate about ensuring the advice and exercise prescription provided to patients encompasses a deep understanding of how morphology, postural and movement patterns and muscle recruitment strategies influence load imparted across the hip and pelvis.

Alison is the Principal Physiotherapist at PhysioTec Physiotherapy in Brisbane. She has 25 years of clinical experience, and has pioneered the use of real time ultrasound for assessment and retraining of muscle function around the hip. Alison has taught at Masters level at the University of Queensland for many years and runs online education and practical seminars for other physiotherapists in Australia and internationally. She has done many keynote and invitational presentations in Australia, New Zealand, England, Ireland, Hong Kong and Singapore, podcasts for Physioedge and the British Journal of Sports Medicine, and has recently contributed to 3 leading physiotherapy and sports medicine texts.
